Field Activity in Caprarola

From October 2017 to January 2018, researchers from Sapienza, INGV and CNR performed measurements in the Caprarola territory.

The activities included:

Soil gas survey. 180 soil gas samples and CO2 flux measurements were collected in an area of about 57 km² (4 samples/km2). Soil gas radon (222Rn) concentrations were measured with a portable RAD7 alpha detector (Durridge Company Inc.), connected with the sampling probe and with a drying tube (filled with CaSO4) used to maintain the relative humidity below 10%. The alpha detector consists of a solid-state ion-implanted silicon semiconductor calibrated to measure in the range of 4 to 400,000 Bq/m3.

Soil permeability measurements. A total number of 180 permeability measurements were also collected at soil gas sampling sites.

Groundwater sampling. 19 water samples were collected from 2 springs and 17 domestic and agricultural wells with depths ranging from 30 to 160 m.
